Manage Permissions
Permissions in Daylite help you control who can see or edit information across your account. Whether you're setting up a new team member or refining access for a growing organization, understanding how permissions work is key to keeping your data secure and organized. In this article, we'll break down how admins can turn on permissions and customize its settings.
Turn On Permissions
Permissions are off by default and must be turned on to take advantage of this feature. When you turn on permissions in Daylite, you must log out and back in for the change to take effect.
- Choose Daylite > Settings > Permissions
- Turn on Permissions
- When prompted choose OK to restart Daylite
Now that permissions are turned on, you’ll see permission settings when creating or viewing records, and you can begin managing access for users and teams.
Important: Other users and devices will also need to restart Daylite before they can see that permissions have been turned on.
Permission Options
Daylite offers several options for setting permissions when creating an object. You can choose from the following:
- Public: The object can be viewed and modified by all Daylite users.
- Private: Only the owner of the object can view and modify it.
- Teams: Grants view and edit access to all users within a selected team, as configured in the Users & Teams section of Daylite Preferences.
- Permission Presets: Applies a predefined set of rules based on the preset you selected in the Permissions section of Daylite Preferences.
- Custom: Allows you to manually assign view and edit access to specific users or teams as needed
Add Permission Presets
Permission Presets allow you to quickly apply a predefined set of view and edit rules to a record. When you select a preset, Daylite automatically assigns permissions based on the configuration you created in the permissions section of Settings. This makes it easy to apply consistent access settings across your team without needing to manually adjust permissions for each record.
- Choose Daylite > Settings > Permissions
- In the left panel, click +
- In the right panel, select the teams and users you want, and set their view and edit permissions.
- Click Apply.
A window will pop up telling you that, "Each Daylite User may need to restart Daylite before the Permissions preset changes will take effect." Once those users restart Daylite the new permissions will be applied.
Set Default Permissions
You can set default permissions for different record types in Daylite to save time and ensure consistency. Each user can configure their own default permissions, controlling who can view and edit the records they create. If you’re an administrator or superuser, you can also set default permissions for other users or apply a global default for everyone in your account.
Note: Default permissions apply only to new records. Existing records are not affected.
- Choose Daylite > Settings >Default Values
- Select the record type you wish to set default permissions
- In the Permissions pop-up menu, select the desired default permission
Now all new records of this type will reflect the default permissions.
